The Jagannath Temple at Puri, one of the Char dhams, is considered by many as one of the holiest places in the world. The temple itself belongs to the twelfth century and ancient rituals for the Trinity continue even today, having being passed through generations.
The Temple forms the backdrop for one of the most heart-warming stories in this collection, titled “The Buda”. An excerpt from “The Buda”: “On those days, when she went to bed after eating barely anything because there was not enough food, she dreamt that she was a prisoner, being led in thick chains before the Lord. Then the visage of Lord Jagannath, always so loving and compassionate, seemed to darken with anger and his eyes widen in fury. She was accused of being a burden on her son and his family, a parasite that was sucking the life blood that would nourish them and most importantly nourish Bishnu. Her grandson, the joy of her life and she was causing him such harm! She would fall before her knees before Mahaprabhu and beg for mercy. He would then soften and show her the way…..”
